I was in London again yesterday producing corporate portraits for ten barristers and while travelling home I started thinking about what was bought and sold.
What are your clients buying? If you think it’s what you make or do, you’re probably wrong.
On Strand Road in Preston there’s a showroom filled with Harley Davidsons, but if you think they’re selling motorbikes you’d be so wrong.
Harley’s carry a whole bunch of connotations - freedom, style, youth, cool, hip, individuality, the 50’s, the 60’s, time to live your own life, the open road, the wind in your hair, sunny California days, hot California nights and lithe suntanned bodies.
That’s what you’re buying! - nothing to do with motorbikes.
Or perhaps you thought middle aged accountants were buying them as a practical, economical and efficient way to get to the office?
It’s the same with my executive portrait photography. |

The connotations my clients are buying into are – honesty, trust, success, distinction, belonging, integrity, security, status and being one of the team. |
|
They’re telling their clients, their business associates, the press and the public : |
|
‘Hey, I’m OK, I'm a great person to do business with!’ |
It’s got nothing to do with your passports, your driver’s licence or your identity card.
So spend some time this weekend thinking about exactly what you’re selling - and what your clients feel they are buying in to. And maybe think about what your corporate portrait’s saying about you and your business – then call me on Monday on 07947 673167
